Registered vs. Unregistered: The Rule That Decides Everything

Daikin publishes two very different parts warranties, and which one you get depends on a single piece of paperwork. Register the unit within 60 days of installation and parts are covered for 12 years. Skip registration and coverage drops to the base term of 5 years.

The clock runs from the installation date, not the manufacture date. If you cannot prove the install date with paperwork, manufacturers typically fall back to the manufacture date plus a grace period, which is one more reason to keep your installer's invoice.

Bought a home with a Daikin system already installed? The registration window has almost certainly passed, and the coverage that remains depends on the transfer rules below. Your first step is confirming when the unit was actually made.

Step one for any warranty claim: confirm your unit's age

Every Daikin warranty window is measured in years from installation, so the manufacture date on the data plate is your anchor. Enter the serial number and we will decode the exact manufacture date free, so you know whether you are inside the 5-year or 12-year window before you call anyone.

What the Daikin Warranty Covers

ComponentRegistered CoverageNotes
Functional parts12 yearsDrops to 5 years without on-time registration
Compressor (AC / heat pump)12 yearsPremium lines carry a lifetime compressor warranty for the original owner
Heat exchanger (gas furnace)20 yearsPremium furnaces carry a lifetime heat exchanger warranty
LaborNot includedLabor is covered only by your installer's own guarantee or a separately purchased labor plan
Refrigerant, filters, maintenanceNot includedConsumables and routine service are the owner's responsibility

Terms shown are Daikin's most common current residential terms as of July 2026. Older units and specific product lines can differ, so always confirm your exact coverage with the serial number using the official lookup above.

What Happens When the Home Is Sold

Partially. When the home is sold, the registered warranty does not follow the unit in full. The new owner usually gets the shorter base parts term measured from the original install date, not a fresh warranty.

Daikin Warranty FAQs

How long is the Daikin HVAC warranty?

Daikin covers functional parts for 12 years when the unit is registered within 60 days of installation. Without registration, coverage drops to 5 years. Premium lines add a lifetime compressor warranty for the original owner. Gas furnace heat exchangers are covered for 20 years, with lifetime coverage on premium furnaces.

Do I need to register my Daikin unit to get the full warranty?

Yes. Registration within 60 days of installation is what unlocks the full 12-year parts term. Miss the window and the unit stays at the 5-year base coverage. Registration is free and takes a few minutes online with the model and serial number.

Is the Daikin warranty transferable to a new homeowner?

Partially. When the home is sold, the registered warranty does not follow the unit in full. The new owner usually gets the shorter base parts term measured from the original install date, not a fresh warranty.

How do I check my Daikin warranty status?

You need the serial number from the unit's data plate. First decode the serial with our free lookup to confirm the manufacture date, then enter it on Daikin's official warranty lookup to see the exact coverage on file. If the original owner registered the unit, the registered terms will show; otherwise the base terms apply.

Does the Daikin warranty cover labor costs?

No. Like nearly every HVAC manufacturer warranty, Daikin's coverage pays for replacement parts only. The labor to diagnose the failure and install the part is billed separately, and on major repairs labor is often the larger share of the bill. Labor is covered only if your installing contractor offered a labor guarantee or you purchased an extended labor plan.
