About American Standard HVAC Systems
American Standard and Trane are both owned by Trane Technologies and built in the same factories by the same engineering teams. The difference is a branding strategy: American Standard targets a slightly different dealer channel and carries different packaging. If you have an American Standard unit, the serial number decodes exactly the same way as Trane: position 2 is the two-digit year, and position 3 is the month as a letter (A through L, skipping I, so L is actually December in some serial formats). If you're ever shopping for replacement parts, Trane and American Standard components are generally interchangeable.
