Janitrol is one of the older names in American heating. The brand dates to the mid-1900s and was best known for gas furnaces before it became a value line under Goodman Manufacturing. Goodman was bought by Daikin in 2012, so any parts and service questions on a Janitrol unit today are handled through the Goodman and Amana network.
Most Janitrol equipment still in the field is old, so an accurate manufacturing date is the first thing to check when you are deciding whether to repair or replace. Because Janitrol shared Goodman's build from the mid-1980s on, those units use Goodman's serial number format: the first two digits are the year and the next two are the month. Earlier units from the Surface Combustion era use their own date code.
