About Rheem HVAC Systems
Rheem was founded in California in 1925 and became best known for water heaters, but the HVAC operation is equally large. The company makes central air conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces under both the Rheem and Ruud names, and has been a Paloma subsidiary since 1988. HVAC manufacturing happens in Fort Smith, Arkansas. One thing worth noting: the serial number format is exactly the same whether you're looking at a Rheem water heater or a Rheem heat pump. Positions 2 and 3 are the two-digit year; positions 4 and 5 are the manufacturing week.
