About Ruud HVAC Systems
Ruud and Rheem are sister brands owned by the same parent company, Paloma. Both brands make the same equipment in the same Fort Smith, Arkansas factory. The differences are in dealer agreements, warranty packaging, and market positioning rather than the equipment itself. Ruud tends to be sold through contractors who manage their own service territory, while Rheem has broader distribution. For reading a serial number, there's no difference between a Ruud and a Rheem: year in positions 2 and 3, manufacturing week in positions 4 and 5.
