The most common begins with a three-character prefix, then a two-digit year in positions 4 and 5 and a two-digit month in positions 6 and 7, like RPF2010001137 for October 2020. Some units use a Coleman or York style serial instead, which begins with a letter and reads the month and year from a chart, like W0K5896070 for September 2005.
