About Airtemp HVAC Systems
Airtemp has a genuinely strange history. It started as a Chrysler brand in the 1950s. Chrysler made automotive and residential air conditioning under the Airtemp name. Chrysler sold the brand, it passed through several owners over the decades, and eventually Nordyne (now Nortek Global HVAC) revived it in 2012 as a private-label budget brand. Modern Airtemp equipment is built in the same Nortek factories as Frigidaire and Gibson HVAC. The serial number format follows Nordyne's standard: a month letter in position 1, followed by a two-digit year in positions 2 and 3.
