About Westinghouse HVAC Systems
Owned by Nortek Global HVAC
Westinghouse heating and cooling equipment is built by Nortek Global HVAC under a licensed use of the Westinghouse name. Like Frigidaire and Gibson HVAC, it is a branding arrangement rather than a tie to any appliance line. Westinghouse HVAC is sold through independent contractors.
The units come off Nortek's Nordyne production lines, and Westinghouse has used several serial styles over the years. The most common is twelve characters: a three-character prefix, then a two-digit year in positions 4 and 5 and a two-digit month in positions 6 and 7. A later style begins with a letter, a digit, and a letter, then the year and month, like G6R9905-05028 for May 1999. Older units used other formats, including a five-digit serial that ends with a year and a month letter, and a short 1980 to 1984 code that starts with a month letter.

Known Westinghouse Issues to Watch For
A short list of patterns reported on Westinghouse equipment. Most have been addressed with revised designs or service bulletins, but they're useful context if you're diagnosing an older system.
- •The Westinghouse name is licensed, so parts and service literature come through Nortek and the Nordyne catalog.
- •Pre-2018 aluminum micro-channel coils share the same coastal leak tendency as the rest of the Nortek family.
- •Matching the right indoor coil and air handler to the outdoor unit is important for the advertised efficiency.
