About Tappan HVAC Systems
Tappan goes back to 1881 as an Ohio stove manufacturer, but the Tappan HVAC brand has nothing to do with the original stove company. It's a licensed name used by Nortek Global HVAC (formerly Nordyne). Nortek sells residential heating and cooling equipment under several licensed brand names, including Frigidaire, Gibson, and Tappan, none of which are connected to their better-known appliance counterparts. Tappan HVAC systems use Nordyne's standard serial number format: a month letter in position 1 and a two-digit year in positions 2 and 3.
