Nortek sells residential heating and cooling equipment under several licensed brand names, including Frigidaire, Gibson, and Tappan, none of which are connected to their better-known appliance counterparts. Tappan HVAC systems use Nordyne's standard serial number format: a three-character prefix, then a two-digit year in positions 4 and 5 and a two-digit month in positions 6 and 7. A few older Tappan units use different legacy date codes that this tool also reads.
