Comfortmaker is an ICP HVAC brand primarily distributed through independent dealers in the eastern United States. ICP is a Carrier Global division that runs multiple brands: Heil, Tempstar, Arcoaire, Day & Night, Keeprite, and Airquest, all built in the same facilities.
One thing worth noting about Comfortmaker: older units sometimes printed the manufacture date directly on the data plate rather than encoding it in the serial number. If the decoder returns no date, check the label for a printed MFG date. For units that do encode the date, the format is the same as all ICP brands: year in positions 2–3, manufacturing week in positions 4–5.

Known Comfortmaker Issues to Watch For
A short list of patterns reported on Comfortmaker equipment. Most have been addressed with revised designs or service bulletins, but they're useful context if you're diagnosing an older system.
- •Older Comfortmaker units (pre-2008) sometimes printed the MFG date on the label instead of encoding it in the serial; if the decoder returns nothing, check the data plate for a printed date.
- •Aluminum micro-channel coils on 2013+ units leak more often than copper tube-and-fin designs in coastal environments.
- •ICP Observer communicating thermostat is sensitive to wiring; wired Cat-5 connections work better than 18/8 thermostat wire on multi-stage units.
